Divided Mind

The cigarette dangles from the corner of Bente's mouth, the ash drizzles down a bit at a time.

Her hands are busy, she is counting and concentrating on getting the pattern right. Everyone knows that she is good at knitting, and she likes to be asked to knit a sweater or a vest. A lot of vests actually.

The process

This table, with art by Isaac Malakkai, was very inspiring to work on. In general I find that Malakkai's pieces let me stretch my imagination to new levels.

I could see that a regular frame would not do this painting justice and the first decision was to adjust the size of the painting to fit a different tabletop that would give me more wood to work with. And only a few days passed before I was carving continuations of the turquoise strands of hair into the wood.

The turquoise colour continues into the legs, filling tubes and containers with the turquoise of the strands of hair. On the one side, a light can be switched on for the evening, giving a glow of blue swirls rising. How to create this light solution took a bit of advice and assistance, thanks to my cousin, we found a good solution, which I will consider using for the future.

When the battery runs out, you can easily change it yourself.

Conceived in Barcelona and born in Almería, Malakkai grew up with a pencil in his hand. During 2000 Malakkai discovered a passion for graffiti, and meeting new artists and travelling fueled his passion.

Today he can be found painting murals, participating at international street art festivals or at his Copenhagen studio drawing and painting on paper and canvases. You can find his murals in Almería, Girona, Canary Islands, Nuremberg, Lyon, Naples, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Mexico, Djerba and the list goes on.... The female figure and weird animals, laced with irony and a particular sense of humor, always dominate Malakkai's creations.
